A woman and her newborn baby were found dead in a Thrissur lodge room on Tuesday after she reportedly gave birth alone.

Thrissur (Kerala): A woman and her newborn baby were found dead inside a private lodge room in the heart of Thrissur city, following suspected complications during childbirth. The incident took place at a lodge located at Veliyannur in Thrissur.
The deceased has been identified as Jyothi, a native of Edamuttam near Triprayar here.
According to lodge staff, Jyothi had checked into the room on June 27. On Tuesday, when she failed to open the door after repeated knocks, the hotel management grew suspicious and alerted the local police.
Upon receiving the information, officers from the Thrissur East Police station arrived at the scene and kicked the door open. Inside, they found the bodies of the woman and her newborn baby. Preliminary observations indicate that she died while giving birth alone inside the room.
Lodge records show that an autorickshaw driver from Pavaratty had accompanied the woman when she checked into the hotel. Following the discovery of the bodies, the East Police tracked down and detained the driver for questioning.
During interrogation, the driver claimed that he had known the woman previously and had merely assisted her in renting the room. He stated that she had complained of severe abdominal pain the previous day, prompting him to buy and deliver some medication to her. He further added that he tried calling her on her phone on Tuesday morning, but when she did not answer, he became worried. He maintained that he was unaware of any further details regarding her pregnancy or the circumstances leading to her death.
The lodge employees informed investigators that Jyothi used to rent rooms at the establishment occasionally. Police records indicate that the deceased woman was a divorcee.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and have initiated a comprehensive probe to clear the mystery surrounding the twin deaths. Forensics teams have collected evidence from the room, and the bodies have been shifted for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
