Kochi: The young woman convicted of murdering her partner in Kerala has filed a petition in the High Court seeking the cancellation of her death sentence.
Greeshma, who was convicted for the murder of her partner Sharon, has challenged the verdict issued by the Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court. The court is set to consider the petition on Thursday.

Greeshma is housed in cell number 11 alongside other convicted prisoners. The jail currently accommodates 23 convicts, with 39 new admissions last year. Although it is standard for death row inmates to be placed in solitary confinement, Greeshma remains in a regular cell due to her ongoing appeal for a possible reduction in her sentence. She will remain in this cell while her case is reconsidered by the higher courts.
Death row prisoners are typically moved to solitary confinement only after their mercy petition to the President has been denied. While incarcerated, these prisoners receive the same treatment as others, but they are under heightened surveillance.
Greeshma’s involvement in Sharon’s death
The chargesheet revealed that Greeshma laced a decoction with poison and gave it to her boyfriend, Sharon Raj, causing his death. This tragic event occurred in October 2022. On October 14, Greeshma served Sharon the poisoned drink, followed by juice to mask the taste. After consuming the drink, Sharon began vomiting in his room and continued while traveling with a friend.
He was first treated at Parassala General Hospital and discharged, but the next day, painful sores appeared in his mouth, leading to his re-admission. Despite medical intervention, Sharon's organs -- including his kidneys, liver, and lungs -- failed, and he tragically passed away in the hospital.
Sharon and Greeshma met during a bus ride to college in October 2021, and a romantic relationship soon blossomed. At the time, Greeshma had an arranged marriage planned with a man from the Army, set for 4 March 2022.
After the marriage was arranged, Greeshma and Sharon secretly exchanged rings at her home and later married at Vettukadu Church. However, upon learning of her new marriage proposal, Greeshma tried to end her relationship with Sharon, but he refused to part ways. His persistence led Greeshma to plot and ultimately execute his murder.
