Thiruvananthapuram: In its ruling of the death penalty for Greeshma in the Sharon murder case, the court emphasised that the severity of the crime outweighs the accused’s age. The court clarified that the age of the accused is not a consideration when determining the punishment, especially in cases involving such brutal acts. Sharon’s family was present in the court as part of the process, with the court sending a strong message to society: even those you love cannot always be trusted.

The court stated that there is no law preventing the maximum punishment in such cases. Sharon endured tremendous pain before his death, and the court pointed out that it could not be argued that Greeshma lacked a criminal history, as she had previously attempted to murder Sharon. Her actions, from poisoning Sharon with juice to ultimately causing his death, were deemed premeditated.

Greeshma’s defense rejected

Greeshma's claim that Sharon had physically abused her was dismissed by the court, which found the argument to be false. The court also noted that Greeshma's attempt to feign suicide while in police custody was a calculated move to distract from her crime. The court observed that Greeshma knew drinking Lysol would not result in death, reinforcing the deliberate nature of her actions.

The court remarked that despite the betrayal, Sharon remained emotionally attached to Greeshma until his last moments, continuing to love her even as he lay dying. His internal organs were found to be in a state of decomposition at the time of his death. The court concluded that this was a clever murder, executed with intent and precision.
