Thoppumpadi (Ernakulam): Kannamaly Inspector Shiju opened a food packet that remained in the police station after distributing to the people of the coastal area devastated in the rough seas. He untied the packet just to see what they have packed, but he was surprised to see a currency note of Rs 100 safely placed inside!
The food packets were prepared by the people of Kumbalangi for those struggling due to rough seas and rain havoc in Kannamaly. The food was prepared and packed at households of local residents. Shiju and other police officers distributed it to houses in coastal areas.
A few packets were remaining after the distribution was complete. The inspector simply opened one of them and found the note of Rs 100 safely folded inside a plastic wrap to prevent it from getting wet. "This Rs 100 note is worth crores of rupee right now," Inspector Shiju said.
People of Kannamali left their houses due to rough seas. All their belongings were washed away in the high tides and houses were waterlogged. Many of them shifted to relief camps. The police were confused about providing food for the disaster victims.
Then Shiju, a native of Kumbalangi, informed the political activists in his place. The locals prepared food packets regardless of any political difference. About 3,000 food packets were prepared and distributed in Chellanam. The currency note was found in one of those packets.
On finding the Rs 100 note packed in a plastic wrapper, Shiju clicked a picture of the same and posted it on social media. It went viral shortly. He also penned a line along with the picture of the money packed with food - "How can we fail when there are so many kind hearts..."
