Following personal intervention from Pinarayi Vijayan, CPM finally restores the party membership of Bineesh Kodiyeri after a three-year deadlock.

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM has finally renewed the party membership of Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of the late veteran Politburo member and former CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, ending a tense three-year impasse. The decision comes after intense controversy erupted over the state leadership repeatedly blocking his reinstatement, forcing former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to personally intervene.
Bineesh had reportedly approached the state leadership four times over the last few years seeking to renew his membership, only to face consistent rejection. Despite knocking on every possible door within the party hierarchy, he was repeatedly stonewalled, with even CPM state secretary M V Govindan failing to provide a clear explanation for the delay.
The prolonged standoff had triggered intense political debate. The party suspended Bineesh's membership following his arrest in a high-profile drug-related case. Although the courts fully acquitted him of all charges in 2023, the state leadership stubbornly refused to restore his status, directly overriding recommendations from the Thiruvananthapuram district unit.
The district leadership had formally submitted four separate applications to reinstate Bineesh. However, the state leadership continually sidelined the requests, with the party secretary offering vague assurances that the matter would be reviewed in due course.
According to party insiders, the deadlock was only broken when senior leader Pinarayi Vijayan personally stepped in to negotiate a resolution. Sources close to the development confirm that the party ultimately agreed to renew Bineesh’s membership solely on the explicit instructions of the former chief minister.
