Kozhikode: Three items included in the Onam kit announced by the government have not arrived in the state so far. Salt has only been shipped from Gujarat. Though the order for brown rice was placed, it has not started arriving as it is needed in large quantities. The bags in which the Onam kits are to be distributed are yet to arrive. As a result, the Supplyco has not started preparing the kits.

Last time, the kit was distributed even after Onam due to delay in the process. This year, the government has issued strict instructions not to repeat this. Though Onam is almost a month away, if the items do not reach Kerala on time, there may be a delay in the distribution of kits.

This year’s Onam kit will have 14 items including the bag. Four among these items have to be weighed before packing. The packing of sugar, mung bean and pigeon pea is almost done. Almost 90 lakh kits have to be distributed in the state. The kits prepared by Supplyco will be taken to ration shops where they will be distributed.
