Supplyco, the Kerala government's state-run retail chain, recorded a turnover of ₹422.17 crore during this year's 35-day Onam sales period, according to figures released by the government.

The figures, available until 4 pm on Tuesday, August 25, cover sales between July 22 and August 25, 2026. The Chief Minister's Office said the turnover was an all-time record for the Onam sales period, while Kerala Minister Anoop Jacob described it as a recent record for the state-run chain.

Of the total turnover, ₹153.49 crore came from subsidised products, while ₹268.89 crore came from non-subsidised products.

Supplyco sales rise from 2025 Onam period

Supplyco's turnover during a comparable 35-day Onam period last year stood at ₹385.42 crore, according to figures cited by the Chief Minister's Office.

Last year's turnover comprised ₹180.03 crore from subsidised products and ₹205.11 crore from non-subsidised items.

This year's sales were higher despite the prices of most subsidised products being kept unchanged, while the prices of several essential commodities were reduced.

Supplyco also recorded ₹350.21 crore in turnover in the first 25 days from August 1 to August 25, according to the minister's statement.

Prices of several subsidised items cut

The government said 13 subsidised products continued to be sold without a price increase through Supplyco and Consumerfed outlets during the Onam season.

Prices of several pulses, including green gram, black gram, chickpeas, cowpeas and pigeon peas, were also reduced compared with the previous Onam season.

The price of Sabari subsidised coconut oil was cut by ₹20, from ₹249 to ₹229 per litre.

Coconut oil was among the major contributors to Supplyco's subsidised sales. It accounted for ₹51.64 crore of sales during this year's Onam period.

Subsidised sales also included ₹43.83 crore worth of pulses, ₹31.21 crore worth of rice, ₹14.14 crore worth of spices and ₹8.36 crore worth of sugar.

Supplyco says adequate stocks were maintained

According to the minister's statement, the government ensured adequate stocks at Supplyco outlets during the Onam season, addressing shortages reported in previous years.

Consumers were also allowed to purchase subsidised products for August and September together using their ration cards, the statement said.

The government attributed the increase in sales to greater consumer reliance on Supplyco during the festive season, along with the availability of subsidised products at unchanged or reduced prices.

Over 40 lakh visit Onam fairs

Supplyco organised three mega trade fairs, 11 district fairs and 126 assembly-level fairs as part of its Onam market programme.

More than 40 lakh people visited the fairs across Kerala, according to the Chief Minister's Office.

The state-run chain also completed the distribution of 5,93,408 free Onam kits four days before Thiruvonam.

Of these, 8,902 kits were distributed to welfare institutions, while 5,51,164 ration card holders had received kits, according to the statement.

A free KSRTC air-conditioned low-floor circular bus service was also arranged on the Vyttila-Kaloor-Vyttila route for consumers visiting the Supplyco Onam Mega Trade Fair at Kaloor in Ernakulam.

Jacob described Supplyco's performance as an "appreciable feat" achieved within a short period. The figures cited by the minister are based on sales recorded until 4 pm on August 25.
