Kochi: According to police report, ragging was not the cause of suicide of Mihir Ahmed, a ninth-grade student at Thiruvaniyoor Global Public School. The report, submitted by the Puthencruz police to the Aluva Rural SP, clarifies that there is no evidence of ragging, and the reason for the suicide maybe family issues.

Mihir, the ninth-grade student of Global Public School, ended his life by jumping from a flat complex in Thrippunithura on January 15. Following this, Mihir's mother came forward alleging that severe ragging faced at the school was the reason for her son's suicide.

The mother had stated that the child endured cruel harassment from other students, including having his head pushed down into a toilet and flushed. Besides this, there were also allegations that the child was subjected to mockery based on his skin colour. Following this, major protests occurred against the school and the principal.

The General Education Department had also announced an investigation into the death and submitted a report. Following this, the police have submitted their report, clarifying that ragging was not the cause of death. The police report states that family issues were the reason for suicide and there is no evidence for the ragging allegations.

Meanwhile, the father had earlier filed a complaint alleging mystery surrounding Mihir's death. It was after this that the mother filed a complaint with the police, raising allegations of ragging.

Father Shafique Madampatt had stated that his son, who lived with his mother and stepfather in the Thrippunithura flat, used to communicate with him regularly and had not mentioned any problems. He had filed the police complaint requesting to find out what Mihir discussed with his stepfather just before dying and to know who all were present in the flat at the time of death. The father had submitted the complaint along with screenshots of chats he had with Mihir. It was after this complaint that the mother came forward with the complaint against the school.
