The holiday has been announced as a precaution to protect students and staff as several areas continue to witness heavy rainfall, waterlogging and the possibility of landslides, flash floods and strong winds.
Kozhikode school holiday on July 9
In Kozhikode, the district administration has declared a holiday for all schools, madrasas, tuition centres, professional colleges and other educational institutions. Anganwadis will also remain closed on Thursday.
Authorities said the district has witnessed waterlogging in several places following continuous rainfall, while strong winds and more rain are expected over the coming hours.
However, university examinations and Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) examinations will be held as scheduled, and there is no change in the examination timetable.
Malappuram school holiday on July 9
Malappuram district has also declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, on Thursday as heavy rainfall continues across the district.
The holiday is applicable to schools, anganwadis, madrasas and tuition centres as well. District authorities said the decision was taken to prevent accidents and ensure public safety in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
The administration has clarified that university examinations, PSC examinations and other previously scheduled examinations will be held without any changes. Educational institutions have also been instructed to make arrangements to compensate for the lost working day at a later date.
Wayanad school holiday on July 9
Wayanad has also announced a school holiday for July 9. According to District Collector's official announcement, the holiday applies to schools, anganwadis, religious study classes, madrasas, tuition centres, special classes and professional colleges across the district.
The Collector clarified that residential schools and residential colleges are not covered by the holiday order and will continue to function unless separate instructions are issued.
Kerala rain alert today
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod for July 9, indicating the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall.
The IMD defines heavy rainfall as 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours. Weather officials have warned that intense spells of rain in a short duration could result in waterlogging, flash floods, overflowing streams, landslides and mudslides, especially in hilly regions and low-lying areas. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and follow official weather advisories.
With rain continuing across Kerala, parents and students are advised to monitor announcements from district administrations for any further updates on school holidays tomorrow, weather alerts or changes in local conditions.
