Thiruvananthapuram: A thunderstorm alert has been issued for parts of Kerala today, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting strong winds and rain in isolated areas over the next three hours. Districts likely to be affected include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Malappuram.

The IMD has warned of wind speeds reaching up to 40 kmph, with the possibility of heavy rainfall defined as 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours. Alongside the thunderstorm risk, a sea erosion warning has also been issued due to intensifying sea conditions.

Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to take extra precautions. Fishing boats and other vessels should be securely anchored in harbours, and a safe distance should be maintained between vessels to prevent collisions. Authorities have urged people to avoid beach visits and any sea-based recreational activities until the weather stabilises.

While no yellow alerts have been issued as of this morning, the IMD has forecast a chance of rain across all districts later in the day. These updates were issued during the early hours, and the public is advised to stay tuned to official forecasts and instructions from local authorities.
