Heavy monsoon rain causes landslides in Kozhikode and Kasaragod; road travel restricted for safety.

Kozhikode: Heavy monsoon showers have intensified across north Kerala, triggering a series of rain-related incidents including landslides in Kozhikode and Kasaragod districts.
A landslide occurred in the Maruthonkara panchayat in Kozhikode district. Officials confirmed that the incident took place outside residential areas, thus minimising immediate threat to lives and properties.
Another mudslide was reported at the 10th hairpin bend of the Kuttiady ghat road. The debris disrupted traffic flow and posed a danger to travellers using this critical hill route.
In Kasaragod district, a landslip was reported in Cheruvathur following continuous rainfall in the region, adding to concerns over increasing instability on elevated terrains.
Kozhikode District Collector has imposed travel restrictions on both Thamarassery and Kuttiady ghat roads. Only emergency vehicles are permitted, and the movement of heavy vehicles has been prohibited.
Police patrolling has been strengthened in areas deemed vulnerable. The Fire and Rescue Services and Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) have been directed to stay on full alert.
Village officers have also been instructed to evacuate residents from high-risk zones and shift them to safer locations as a precautionary measure.
