Heavy rain prompts holiday for educational institutions in eight Kerala districts today.
Thiruvananthapuram: Educational institutions in eight districts of Kerala will remain closed today, August 8, following weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) amid heavy rainfall.
The holiday applies to Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Thrissur, Kannur, Wayanad, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha, with certain exceptions in some districts.

Kozhikode
In Kozhikode, the District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions except professional colleges due to continuing heavy rain and waterlogging in the hilly and coastal areas.
The holiday also applies to anganwadis, madrassas and tuition centres. However, previously scheduled examinations and online classes will continue as planned.
Kasaragod
In Kasaragod, the District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, in view of the warning for very heavy rainfall.
Previously scheduled public examinations and interviews will not be affected.
Thrissur
All educational institutions in Thrissur will remain closed on Saturday due to continuing heavy rain.
The holiday covers anganwadis, nurseries, Kendriya Vidyalayas, CBSE and ICSE schools, professional colleges and tuition centres.
Previously scheduled examinations and interviews will go ahead as planned.
Kannur
In Kannur, the District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, due to the possibility of heavy rain.
The order covers schools, anganwadis, tuition centres, ICSE and CBSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, madrassas and other religious educational institutions.
Residential schools are exempted from the holiday. Previously scheduled university and public examinations and interviews will also continue as planned.
Wayanad
In Wayanad, the holiday applies to religious study classes, tuition centres, special classes and coaching centres following the IMD's weather warning for Saturday.
Residential schools and colleges are not covered by the holiday order. Heads of residential institutions have been asked to ensure the safety of students and may declare a holiday if necessary.
Kottayam
The District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Kottayam on Saturday.
The order covers religious study classes, tuition centres, coaching centres and special classes.
Pathanamthitta
All educational institutions in Pathanamthitta, including professional colleges, will remain closed on Saturday.
The holiday also applies to tuition centres and training institutions. Previously scheduled examinations, if any, will be subject to the applicable arrangements.
Alappuzha
In Alappuzha, the holiday applies to all educational institutions, from anganwadis to professional colleges, on Saturday.
