Marayoor, Idukki: In a historic first for Kerala, a nun has been appointed as medical officer at a government hospital. Dr Jean Rose, also known as Rosamma Thomas, has taken over as the medical officer at the Marayoor Family Health Centre, marking a milestone in the state's healthcare arena.

Dr Rosamma Thomas is a member of ‘The Congregation of the Sisters of the Destitute,’ and has a remarkable medical background. She completed her MBBS and post-graduate studies in anaesthesia at St John’s Medical College in Bengaluru.

Before her appointment, Dr Rosamma served for more than 10 years at a private hospital in Marayoor that was under church authority. Her extensive experience in healthcare set her on a path to government service as she successfully passed the Kerala PSC examination. Two years ago, she received her first appointment at the Kattappana Taluk Hospital.
