Kochi: Three brothers from Kerala’s Kochi have achieved remarkable success in the National Supercross bike racing championship, with each securing impressive positions across various categories.

In an extraordinary display of talent and determination, Ryan, a college student, emerged as the winner of the National Supercross Bike Racing Championship. His brother, Wilmar, a Plus Two student also stood out by securing the runner-up spot in the same category, with his other brother Ector a ninth-grader, being placed second in the junior category. This family achievement is even more cherishing given that their father and uncles had also made a mark in bike racing years ago, making it a rare and unique feat for the family.

Ryan, Wilmar, and Ector’s unmatched achievement

The three brothers – Ryan, Wilmar, and Ector – are the children of Jose Grainer, a merchant navy officer from Fort Kochi, and Annette Hema, a teacher. Their passion for bike racing began with their father, who introduced Ryan to the sport at just 14 years old. Ryan, who is currently in his final year of BBA studies at Cochin College, quickly developed a passion for racing and gained a special license from the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India. His early training took place at a private track in Mundamveli, Kochi, before he sought further guidance from renowned trainer Mahesh in Thrissur. Over time, Ryan honed his skills under the mentorship of Dev Venkatesh in Bengaluru, eventually becoming the champion in this year’s National Championship with 203 points across six rounds, including eight race wins and one second-place finish.

Training, dedication to the sport

Inspired by Ryan’s success, Wilmar and Ector also ventured into the world of bike racing. They follow rigorous training routines, including daily exercises and intense practice sessions.

Ryan, for example, cycles 50 km every morning to maintain peak fitness levels. The brothers’ commitment to the sport is evident in their training and perseverance.

At home, they have a collection of racing bikes, including a KTM 250 SXF worth Rs 10 lakh and a Kawasaki KX 100 valued at Rs 8 lakh. The support they receive from their friends and teachers in school and college further fuels their passion and ambition to succeed.
