
Kannur: Shinu Chovva, a bodybuilding champion and multi-degree holder, is set to join the Kerala Police as an Armed Police Inspector. The decision was made during a recent cabinet meeting, and Shinu will be appointed to a newly created supernumerary position in the Armed Police Battalion, equivalent to the rank of inspector.
Alongside him, bodybuilding star Chitharesh Natesan will also be appointed to a similar role.

Shinu, 37, hailing from Koothuparamba, is a well-known figure in the bodybuilding world. He has earned medals in seven out of the nine international competitions he has participated in, including three titles each at the World and Asia Championships, and one in South Asia. Shinu won the championship in the World Bodybuilding and Sports Physique competitions held in Thailand (2018, 2022) and South Korea (2019).
An academic, professional all-rounder
In addition to his bodybuilding success, Shinu holds both MBA and MA degrees. He has worked as a personal trainer for notable film stars such as Deepti Sati and Kamna Jethmalani. His acting career also includes a role in the film 'Pathonpatham Noonttandu' directed by Vinayan. Outside of bodybuilding and acting, Shinu is active in modelling and has served as a brand ambassador for various companies.
Life of hard work, dedication
Shinu’s journey hasn’t been easy. While studying, he took up local jobs, including headloading and welding, to support his education. At just 18 years old, he began his bodybuilding career under the guidance of Mahesh Babu at ‘Gym Zone’ in Koothuparamba. His passion for international competitions led him to Bengaluru, where he further honed his skills.
Shinu was also an active member of the National Service Scheme (NSS) during his undergraduate years at Nirmalagiri College. He is the son of the late V K Nanu and Omana.
