The warning for severe heat and heatwave conditions has been extended to Monday

Thiruvananthapuram: Despite forecasts of rain across Kerala, the Meteorological Department has warned that severe heat conditions will continue on Monday (April 27). Palakkad recorded a maximum temperature of 40.1°C on Sunday, while Punalur registered 39.5°C. Palakkad is expected to reach around 40°C again on Monday, with Kollam likely to record 39°C.
The warning for severe heat and heatwave conditions has been extended to Monday. Light rain is expected across all districts in Kerala on Monday and Tuesday, with a possibility of thunderstorms in the evening. Yellow alerts have been issued for heavy rainfall in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod on April 29, and in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam on April 30.
Heatstroke cases reported in Palakkad
Five more people have suffered heatstroke in various parts of the district. Those affected include a ward member of Perumatti grama panchayat, an auto driver from Lakkidi, a resident of Kaniyamkulam, an army officer from Vantithavalam, and a middle-aged man from Thavalam.
Jayashree (36), wife of Devu from Chakkalivveettil, Kaniyamkulam, suffered burns on her shoulder after experiencing a burning sensation while returning from a temple visit on Sunday morning.
Sheejha Ezhuthani (40), a ward member of Perumatty Grama Panchayat, suffered heat-related burns on her right hand while travelling by scooter from the panchayat office on Saturday afternoon.
Palaniswamy (56) of Thavalam in Attappady suffered burns on his hand while working in a paddy field on Sunday afternoon.
Mutukattil Jayakrishnan (52), an auto driver from Lakkidi, sustained burns on his back and stomach while working in a paddy field near his home. The incident occurred around 2 pm on Sunday when he went to bring back cattle grazing in the field. He is undergoing treatment at the Taluk Hospital.
Sunil (36) from Alayar, Vantithavalam, an army officer on leave, also suffered burns on the back of his neck and hands.
Temperatures soar again in Malampuzha
The temperature in Malampuzha rose again to 40.1°C on Sunday, up from 39.8°C on Saturday. In the Mundur IRTC area, the maximum temperature recorded was 38.8°C, with a minimum of 27.8°C. On Saturday, the maximum there was 39°C.
The average temperature in Palakkad district on Sunday stood at 39.8°C.
Five-year-old’s video highlights heat safety concerns
A video of a five-year-old boy showing burn marks caused by heat exposure has gone viral on social media, raising awareness about the dangers of extreme heat.
Thrijal, son of Sajil and Aswini from Kunissery, is an LKG student at SRUP School, Kunissery. After returning home from playing with friends on Thursday evening, his parents noticed marks below his eyes and on his nose. By Friday morning, these had developed into burns. He received treatment at Kunissery Family Health Centre.

In the video, recorded by his mother and later shared in his school’s social media group, Thrijal introduces himself and warns friends to avoid going out in the sun. He says, “Teacher, my face is burnt,” and urges others to stay indoors during the intense heat.
His father, Sajil, said the video was shared as a small effort to raise awareness among children and parents about the dangers of going out in extreme heat.
