Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has excluded Dr Ciza Thomas, Vice Chancellor of Digital University, from participating in the Higher Education Conclave. The event, to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, aims to boost Kerala’s higher education sector to an international level, will feature former VCs from various universities in Kerala, but Dr Ciza Thomas was left out.

Political rivalry allegations

The exclusion of Dr Ciza Thomas has sparked accusations of political rivalry. While former VCs aligned with the government’s interests are included in key sessions, Dr Ciza Thomas has been sidelined, with only less crucial sessions assigned to current VCs. Her exclusion comes after tensions between the state government and the Vice Chancellor, who was appointed by former Governor Arif Mohammed Khan.

Dr Ciza Thomas's appointment as VC of Digital University had been controversial, as she was appointed by the former Governor, a move that did not sit well with the current administration. The government's resentment grew further after her appointment, even withholding her pension benefits upon retirement.
