Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has introduced a health card system designed to digitally store the health information of students from Classes 1 to 12. This new initiative will record health check-ups and other relevant medical details from the time a student enrols in school until they complete their Class 12.
The project, undertaken in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), will be overseen by the Department of General Education and will receive technical support from Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE).

The health card will encompass data from medical, dental, and eye check-ups, immunisations, and other health-related assessments conducted throughout the school years.
Students will be classified into three categories: Primary (Classes 1 to 5), Upper Primary (Classes 6 to 8), and Secondary (Classes 9 to 12). The initiative also aims to organise classes led by doctors to address health concerns prevalent among adolescents.
A recent workshop, conducted by the Department of Education and the IMA, outlined a comprehensive health programme for students. The workshop was inaugurated by Minister V. Sivankutty.
During the event, IMA State President Dr Joseph Benaven, Joint Secretary Dr Oommen Varghese, and DGE S. Shanavas also delivered speeches.
