Kochi: KPCC president K Sudhakaran has taken legal action by launching a defamation case against CPM state secretary MV Govindan and the party's mouthpiece, ‘Deshabhimani’, for making “false remarks” against him in the case against fake antique dealer Monson Mavunkal. Sudhakaran personally filed the case at the Ernakulam CJM court. He has also filed a defamation case against Kannur district panchayat president PP Divya.
Deshabhimani had published a report claiming that K Sudhakaran visited Monson’s house during the period when Monson assaulted a minor girl. The following day, MV Govindan repeated this statement in a press conference, citing Deshabhimani news. He further stated that he stands by his statement. However, the investigation team has refuted any presence of Sudhakaran during the incident. Monson was convicted in one case charged under POCSO Act.

Kannur district panchayat president PP Divya also made similar allegations against him, Sudhakaran said.
After filing the case, Sudhakaran addressed the media, explaining that he appeared in court directly as it involved criminal defamation.
"I have been unjustly accused of something that has absolutely no connection to me. This allegation is something I cannot tolerate in my life,” Sudhakaran said. He also expressed his dismay and said that such “baseless accusations” were made even after the court's judgement in the case.
