Thiruvananthapuram: In a massive letdown for the CPM state secretary MV Govindan, the Crime Branch dismissed his claim that KPCC president K Sudhakaran was present when controversial self-styled antique dealer Monson Mavunkal sexually assaulted a minor girl.
In a press conference held on Sunday, MV Govindan alleged that the minor girl, in a statement before the Crime Branch team, revealed that Sudhakaran was present when Monson sexually assaulted her. He even claimed that Crime Branch would question Sudhakaran in the POCSO case. His allegations against Sudhakaran were based on a news report of the CPM-backed daily Deshabhimani.
Responding to Govindan's remark, Crime Branch officials said they have no plans to question the Congress leader in the case. The officials also clarified that Sudhakaran had been summoned for questioning in the cheating case, not the POCSO case.
"Currently, the survivor has not given a statement against Sudhakaran. We would examine all allegations against Sudhakaran during the questioning. We issued notice to K Sudhakaran in case wherein he is the second accused, and Monson Mavunkal is the first accused," Crime Branch informed.
