IndiGo has announced the temporary suspension of its direct flight service between Muscat and Kannur, citing low passenger demand during the off-peak travel season.

The route, which has been popular with the expatriate Malayali community in Oman as well as tourists, has been put on hold indefinitely, citing low passenger demand during the off— peak season. The airline said the decision was taken after a detailed review of booking trends, which showed a significant decline in demand during this period.

IndiGo clarified that the suspension is only temporary and that the airline will continue to monitor market conditions. If demand improves in the coming months, the airline plans to resume services.

The suspension is expected to affect several expatriates in Muscat who depend on the direct connection to Kannur for family visits and short trips. To reduce inconvenience, IndiGo has assured that passengers who had booked tickets on the route are being contacted directly and offered multiple options:

  • Rebooking on other IndiGo flights,
  • Rerouting through alternative network points,
  •  Or claiming a full refund.

The airline also highlighted that such adjustments are part of broader industry practices, where routes are optimised according to seasonal demand to utilise aircraft and crew more efficiently.

For now, passengers travelling between Muscat and Kannur will have to rely on connecting flights until demand picks up and the direct service resumes.
