Idukki: A recent complaint of a robbery involving over Rs 10 lakh, allegedly committed by two masked men by throwing chilli powder on a housewife’s eyes, is reported to be false. The incident was reported to have occurred in Nedumkandam on Monday afternoon.
The housewife claimed that the robbers, armed with knives, attacked her after she answered a knock on the door. According to her, they threw chilli powder on her face, stole money from a cupboard and then fled. The Nedumkandam police rushed to the scene after a neighbour reported hearing the housewife’s cries for help.

However, the police found no evidence to support her claims. The housewife's statement was found to be untrue. It turns out that the money she reported stolen was actually part of a savings scheme which her family had been running for years. The amount was set to be distributed among members for Onam.
The false robbery story had caused concern among those involved in the saving scheme as well. Since no theft occurred and no complaints were filed, the police have not registered case relating to the incident.
