Thrissur: Muvattupuzha native Reena Mathayi, who had to undergo severe hardship after getting embroiled in a fake case, finally breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday after a court here dismissed charges against her.

The 48-year-old woman landed in trouble after she helped two road accident victims in 2015.

She witnessed the accident near a chapel en route to her friend Sijus’s apartment in Kuttanellur. Immediately, she stopped her car and took two injured youngsters to Medical College Hospital. Her timely intervention saved the lives of Roshin and Jerin.

Meanwhile, during the rescue operation, her vehicle was hit by another car. The matter was intimated to Thrissur Traffic Station. Later, while cleaning the blood stains from the car at her friend’s apartment, two cops approached her and accused her of murder and trying to destroy evidence. Later Reena and her car were taken to the Ollur police station. She was detained there till the next morning.

Her family later filed a complaint to the DGP, Chief Minister and Police authority, based on which the civil police officer K.K. Aju was suspended from service. The police later pressured Reena to retract her complaint, worried that Aju would lose his job.

Reena was arrested for non-bailable offences a month later and was detained in a case filed against her for allegedly attempting to murder Aju. She received bail 35 days after her arrest in the case.

Eventually, after examining the case, Thrissur Principal Assistant Sessions Court Judge P.V. Reejula acquitted her of all charges. Lawyers V. R. Jyothish, V. K Satyajith and K.J Yadukrishna appeared for Reena in the court.
