Thrissur: As printing an advertisement logo of the Kerala government on a few books published by the Kerala Sahitya Akademi created a furore among the Akademi leadership, chairman K Satchidanandan on Tuesday denied any rift. He stated that democracy existed in the Akademi.
Earlier, Satchidanandan had publicly expressed displeasure over the decision. He asserted that the Akademi had the responsibility to remain cautious on such matters as governments tend to fall, whereas books remain forever. He had added that if necessary, then the logo could have been placed inside, instead of the cover. Akademi secretary CP Aboobacker had explained the decision to print the logo and apologised if the writers were hurt.

Meanwhile, Akademi sources said that not even the writers of the books, which were published one-and-half-months ago, expressed a difference of opinion over the ad logo. Those who did not receive the Sahitya Akademi awards are behind the controversy, they alleged.
The government advertisement logo was published on the cover page of 30 books including ‘Malayala Nataka Sahithya Charithram’, Dr M Leelavathi’s ‘ONV Kavitha Padanangal’ among others. The logo, which appeared in the top right corner of the books, carried the tagline ‘Kaikal Korthu Karuthode, Randam Pinarayi Sarkar Varshikam’ (Joining hands with strength, Second Pinarayi Government Anniversary).
