Thrissur: Renowned writer NS Madhavan has raised concerns about the stifled environment prevailing in the country in which artists cannot freely pursue their creative works. His remarks came during the inauguration of the 66th anniversary celebration of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.
While delivering his speech, Madhavan said that, attempts are being carried out everywhere to reconstruct the nation to create a mololithic society. To attain this goal, the right wing parties use the more popular mediums of entertainment like cinema, drama and literature.
Madhavan also emphasized the importance of academies as sanctuaries for artists and like-minded individuals to thrive.
The event was presided over by Chairman Mattannur Sankarankutty and had Kerala Kalamandalam Vice Chancellor Prof B Ananthakrishnan as the Chief Guest.
Playwright CL Jose was honored during the ceremony, which also saw addresses by Kerala Sahitya Akademi Secretary CP Abubakar, Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy Secretary N Balamuralikrishnan, as well as Karivellur Murali and Renu Ramanath.
