Kochi: Former Advocate General CP Sudhakara Prasad passed away. He was 81. He is State President and Vice President of the All India Lawyers Union. He was the Advocate General during the reign of VS Achuthanandan and the first Pinarayi Vijayan ministry.
Sudhakara Prasad was known for being an expert in service law and had experience in criminal, constitutional and civil law cases. He had given legal advice to the V S Achuthanandan government that permission must not be given to prosecute Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC-Lavalin case.
However, the governor rejected the decision taken by the government based on this legal advice. The CBI then obtained permission from the prosecution to file a charge sheet.
Later, he had said that the legal advice he had given at the time was correct, which was later proved with the acquittal of the accused, including Pinarayi Vijayan.
During his tenure, he took significant positions on behalf of the government in cases such as Smart City, HMT, Golf Club Acquisition and SNC Lavlin.
He is survived by his wife Chandrika. Children: Dr Sini Ramesh (Gynecologist, Amrita Hospital), A Deepak (Engineer Dubai) Grandchildren: Adv Ramesh (High Court), Nileena.
