Technical and financial clearances will be completed within the stipulated timeframe to ensure that construction begins in December

Malappuram: The Central government has sanctioned Rs 988.75 crore for 39 road development projects across Kerala, covering a total distance of 486.33 kilometres. Construction is expected to begin in December, state Public Works Minister P K Basheer announced on Saturday.
The funding has been approved under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme, aimed at improving road infrastructure and connectivity across the state.
Of the total allocation, Rs 570 crore has been set aside for 21 road projects in the Malabar region, covering the five northern districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram.
According to the minister, the approval followed discussions with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
The sanctioned works include the development and improvement of major district roads, ordinary district roads and corporation roads.
The Kerala government has already granted administrative sanction for the projects, paving the way for the remaining approval procedures.
Technical and financial clearances will be completed within the stipulated timeframe to ensure that construction begins in December, Basheer said.
The proposed roads will be developed in accordance with National Highway standards, with the government aiming to improve the quality and safety of road infrastructure in both urban and rural areas.
Once completed, the projects are expected to strengthen connectivity between towns and villages, improve travel conditions and enhance transportation infrastructure across Kerala.
