Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil complains to Lok Sabha Speaker over police lathi charge in Perambra, demands action against officers.

Kozhikode: Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil has lodged a formal complaint with the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Parliamentary Privileges Committee, demanding action against police officials involved in the lathi charge incident at Perambra, in which he was injured.
In his complaint, the MP has specifically named Perambra DySP N Sunil Kumar and Vadakara DySP Hariprasad as being directly responsible for the police assault. He also mentioned that Kozhikode Rural SP K E Baiju had acknowledged the incident during a phone conversation, but later publicly denied it.
The complaint urged urgent disciplinary action against the officers involved, citing contradictions in the SP’s statements. Initially, Baiju reportedly admitted the incident was unfortunate, but later claimed to the media that no lathi charge had occurred—an inconsistency the MP flagged in his letter.
Shafi Parambil stated that he had gone to Perambra to attend a protest event, which had no law-and-order issues at the time. He alleged that it was the police intervention that disrupted the situation. He insists that the officers present during the incident—Sunil Kumar and Hariprasad—must be held accountable following a thorough investigation.
The Congress party had already submitted a separate complaint to the DGP, also demanding immediate action against the officers involved. The party warned that failure to act would lead to a protest in front of the Rural SP’s residence.
Shafi Parambil, who suffered nasal bone fractures due to the lathi charge, is expected to be discharged from hospital by Monday evening.
