Kollam: The CPM state conference started on Thursday morning as Central Committee member AK Balan hoisted the flag to mark the beginning of delegates conference at Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Nagar (C Kesavan memorial municipal town hall). 

After a floral tribute at the Martyrs' Memorial, CPM Coordinator and Politburo member Prakash Karat inaugurated the delegates conference. The party's state secretary, M.V. Govindan, will present the action taken report. After the report, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will present the New Kerala policy document. Discussions on the report will continue on March 7 and 8.

Generally, a discussion will take place on the action taken report after the inaugural ceremony. However, after presenting the action taken report on Thursday, the Chief Minister decided to present the document "New Pathways for New Kerala." During the Ernakulam conference, the document "Party's Vision for New Kerala" was presented, which was later adopted by the LDF as the policy document for the government. Based on this, a decision was made to allow private universities.

The evaluation of the document approved during the last conference, along with a  review of how much progress has been made, is included in the new policy document. The Chief Minister will propose the new pathways to be adopted during the conference as part of its continuation.

On Wednesday evening, the flag, the lamp and the flagstaff processions have reached the conference venue. The flag, brought from Kayyur under the leadership of state secretariat member M. Swaraj, was received by P K Sreemathi. The lamp, which arrived from Vayalar under the leadership of state secretariat member Dr. P.K. Biju was received by LDF Convener T.P. Ramakrishnan. The flagstaff procession, starting from Sooranadu, was led by central committee member C.S. Sujatha. The lamps from 23 Martyrs' Memorials in the district converged at the conference city.
