Kannur: Discontent has been brewing from multiple quarters following the conclusion of the CPM state conference, particularly over the composition of the newly formed state committee. The exclusion of leaders such as A Padmakumar, P Jayarajan and Mercykutty Amma has led to resentment within party circles. Amidst this, a Facebook post by N Sukanya, a leader of the All India Democratic Women’s Association, has gained attention. Sukanya recently changed her profile picture on Facebook and shared a quote alongside it, which has since become a talking point on social media. The post read, “If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are my comrade”—a famous quote attributed to Che Guevara.

Her post came soon after the CPM state conference concluded and the list of state committee members was published. Following this, she also shared a photo with senior Thrissur leader U P Joseph, extending birthday wishes to him.

Sukanya was widely expected to secure a place in the state committee as a representative of women leaders from Kannur. Many had anticipated her inclusion, considering her leadership role in the Democratic Women’s Association. However, the newly selected members from Kannur included John Brittas, V K Sanoj, Biju Kandakkai and M Prakashan. Similarly, in Thrissur, senior leader U P Joseph was considered a probable candidate for the state committee. However, instead, Minister R Bindu was chosen to represent the district. Meanwhile, responding to media queries, Sukanya dismissed any alternative interpretations of her Facebook post, stating that she had merely shared a quote by Che Guevara. In a parallel development, P Jayarajan’s exclusion from the party’s state secretariat also sparked discussions after his son Jain Raj posted a WhatsApp status that attracted attention. His post featured a screenshot of a 2019 Facebook post by CPM leader M Swaraj, which read: “Did you honestly still believe there would be a different fate in present-day India, Oh innocent ones?”

Further, senior CPM leader A Padmakumar had publicly voiced his dissatisfaction over being left out of the state committee. He also expressed his discontent over Minister Veena George being included as a special invitee to the committee. Meanwhile, P Jayarajan’s omission from the state secretariat has also been met with criticism on social media.
