Kozhikode: In preparation for Onam, Food Minister G. R. Anil has announced that two litres of coconut oil will be distributed through Supplyco outlets at subsidised rates.
Each household with a valid ration card will be eligible to receive two litres of coconut oil at a reduced price. The minister also assured that the oil will reach Supplyco outlets very soon.
Minister Anil added that the price of coconut oil is expected to come down even more in the coming days. He also urged the Food Safety Department to carry out strict checks to identify and remove adulterated or poor-quality coconut oil from the market.
All other Onam essentials available
Apart from coconut oil, all other Onam festival essentials are already available at Supplyco stores across the state, added the Minister. According to him, the delayed arrival of coconut oil is being addressed, and restocking is expected shortly.
Addressing concerns over Supplyco's past financial troubles, Minister Anil said that the organisation faced a serious financial crisis, but said the situation is now under control. The minister also remarked that recent criticism raised during CPI district meetings are quite normal.
