Kollam: A court here has awarded a life sentence to both of the accused in the dowry death case of a 28-year-old woman in Pooyappally.
Earlier, the Kollam Additional District Judge had found Chandu Lal and his mother, Geetha Lal, guilty of murdering Tushara, a native of Karunagappally. Tushara was starved to death by her husband and mother-in-law at their residence over dowry demands.
The incident has been described as an act of extreme cruelty. Her death came to light on the night of March 21, 2019. She was denied proper food for days and survived only on soaked rice and sugar syrup. At the time of her death at a hospital in Kollam, she weighed just 20 kg.
