Kannur (Kerala): A full-scale emergency response was triggered at the Kannur International Airport on Wednesday after an IndiGo cabin crew member mistakenly identified a handwritten note as a bomb threat. The flight, arriving from Mumbai, landed safely at approximately 3.20 pm before the security alert was fully activated.
The security scare began when a crew member discovered the note discarded inside a waste bin in one of the aircraft's lavatories. Erring on the side of caution, the cabin crew immediately alerted Air Traffic Control (ATC) and airport security officials.
The aircraft was immediately taxied to an isolation bay post-landing to undergo mandatory safety protocols. Local police authorities confirmed that specialised bomb disposal units and canine squads conducted an exhaustive sweep of the entire plane. The search yielded no hazardous materials, and investigators later determined the text on the note did not contain any threat, concluding that the incident was entirely a case of misinterpretation by the airline staff.
