IndiGo is celebrating its 20th anniversary by giving away 20,000 free domestic flight tickets through fare refunds.

For anyone planning a domestic trip this week, booking a flight could come with an unexpected bonus. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, IndiGo has rolled out a limited-time campaign that could see thousands of passengers getting their airfare back.
Rather than offering traditional promo codes or discounted fares, India's largest airline has turned the giveaway into a lucky draw with a quiz element. Over three days, eligible travellers who book directly with the airline stand a chance of having the full cost of their ticket refunded, effectively making their journey free.
The campaign forms part of IndiGo's anniversary celebrations, marking two decades since the airline launched commercial operations in India in August 2006.
How the 'IndiGoFree' offer works
The promotion is open to passengers booking domestic flights between August 4 and August 6, 2026. However, only reservations made through IndiGo's own booking platforms qualify, including the airline's official website, mobile application and AI-powered assistant, 6Eskai.
Once the booking window closes, the airline will randomly choose eligible customers. Those selected will receive notifications via email and WhatsApp asking them to answer a simple question.
Passengers are allowed up to three attempts to submit the correct answer. Those who succeed will receive a refund of the amount paid for their booking, capped at ₹10,000 per Passenger Name Record (PNR). According to the airline, refunds will be credited within three to five working days.
The offer applies to both one-way and return domestic journeys booked in Economy or IndiGoStretch.
Direct bookings are the only way in
Travellers who usually reserve tickets through online travel agencies or fare comparison platforms should note that such bookings are not eligible for the anniversary promotion.
Only flights purchased directly from IndiGo qualify for the giveaway, making the airline's own digital channels the sole entry point for the campaign.
Celebrating two decades of growth
The anniversary campaign coincides with a significant milestone for IndiGo, which completed 20 years of commercial operations this week. The airline operated its inaugural service on August 4, 2006, connecting Delhi with Imphal via Guwahati.
Since then, IndiGo has evolved from a low-cost start-up into India's biggest airline by market share. It now operates a fleet of more than 430 aircraft, runs nearly 2,200 flights each day and connects passengers to more than 95 destinations within India alongside over 40 international cities.
The carrier says its network has expanded to the point where nearly nine out of ten Indians now live within 100 kilometres of an airport served by IndiGo. International operations, which began in 2011, now extend across Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe through a combination of direct services and airline partnerships.
