Kottayam: The incidents of cosmetic surgeries going wrong are several. As beauty parlours try to maximise their profits, it’s often their dedicated customers who land in trouble.

Individuals are left to suffer if the chemical ratios in the beauty-enhancing pills exceed the permissible levels. For example, pills prescribed for removing facial marks often end up creating deep wounds on the faces of the people, which will then have to be treated and cured over a long period of time. “Unscientific skin treatments often turn into painful experiences for those undergoing them,” says professor Dr MI Celine, who works in the Department of Dermatology and Venereology at the Kottayam Medical College.

Dr M I Celine recollects how a chemical peel had produced undesired results in a woman who was about to get married. It eventually took one year to remove the marks on her face. Glycolic acid is the major component in peel therapy. The substance should be handled with real care.

Similarly, special care has to be taken while performing hair transplant surgery. If the surgery goes wrong, then are a high chance of infections developing above the skull. Dr Mary Vineetha advises that “special care has to be taken while undergoing hair transplant surgeries including hair follicle transplantation.”

Similarly, skin warts and other unwanted growths shall be removed from the body only after thorough medical examinations and under the supervision of qualified medical professionals.

It should be noted that individuals might get affected by deadly diseases including HIV and Hepatitis B if non-sterilised instruments are used for performing skin surgeries.
