Alappuzha: Enraged over CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswam’s remarks against him, PV Anvar MLA has come out against CPI, alleging seat trading during the 2011 assembly election. While speaking to reporters on Monday, Anvar said that Binoy Viswam’s CPI had traded their seat at Eranad in 2011. “It was Veliyam Bhargavan, the then state secretary of CPI, who sold the seat to the Muslim League,” Anvar alleged.
“The seat was sold to the Muslim League for Rs. 25 lakhs. It was League leader Yunus Kunju who approached Veliyam to seal the deal. CPI leaders are wild thieves, and I challenge them to have an open debate over this,” Anvar said.
“By the end of the discussion regarding the selection of candidates at Eranad, the CPI district committee had asked me to meet the leaders with a stamp paper worth Rs. 50. The decision was to make me sign the stamp paper, in which I would give my assurance to stand with the CPI and would not change under any circumstances. But Veliyam Bhargavan intervened in the matter, and I was denied the seat. CPI took the seat and lost their deposit, as they could get only 2,300 votes. Though I was defeated and finished in second place, I received 49,000 votes. Veliyam was influenced by Muslim League leader Yunus Kunju, and Rs. 25 lakhs was given to the CPI party fund,” Anvar alleged.
“I had openly said that I was denied the seat only because I was not ready to contribute towards the party fund. For this, Veliyam filed a defamation case against me. As I provided a legal reply to this case, CPI did not proceed with it again,” Anvar said.
Earlier, Binoy Viswam said that PV Anvar is a lesson for all. “This is a lesson for the alertness and watchfulness that should be observed by a communist party while welcoming people like Anvar. CPM had given him a grand welcome and celebrated him by unnecessarily and undeservingly projecting him as a big leader, without checking his credentials. This is a great lesson for both CPM and CPI, as we should be more alert when welcoming people like Anvar into the communist parties,” Binoy said.
