Cold wave conditions persist across Telangana with temperatures dipping to 5°C. IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts till December 26.

Hyderabad: Cold wave conditions continued to prevail across parts of Telangana, with several locations recording single-digit minimum temperatures, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Kohir in Sangareddy district emerged as the coldest place in the state, registering a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. Reddy Palle in Moinabad mandal of Ranga Reddy district followed closely at 6.9 degrees Celsius.
Out of Telangana’s 33 districts, 17 recorded minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, reflecting a sharp dip in night temperatures. Sirpur (U) in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district reported 7 degrees Celsius, while Arili in Adilabad district recorded 8.3 degrees. Nawabpet in Vikarabad logged 8.7 degrees, Pothareddipet in Siddipet and Damarancha in Medak recorded 9.5 degrees each, and Gandhari in Kamareddy district saw 9.7 degrees Celsius.
A noticeable drop in night temperatures was also reported in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas, signalling the intensification of winter conditions.
Dense fog was observed in parts of the outskirts of Hyderabad and in districts including Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Medak, Adilabad, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad, affecting early morning visibility.
IMD issues cold wave alerts
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts, where cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places. These areas may record minimum temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius until December 26.
A yellow alert has been sounded for Hanumakonda, Hyderabad, Jagtial, Jangaon, Karimnagar, Mahabubabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Nizamabad, Peddapalle, Rajanna Sircilla, Ranga Reddy, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Warangal, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri. These districts are likely to experience minimum temperatures ranging from 11 to 15 degrees Celsius over the next five days.
The remaining 11 districts are expected to record minimum temperatures above 15 degrees Celsius.
According to the IMD forecast, dry weather is very likely to prevail over Telangana for the next two days, with minimum temperatures expected to remain 3 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal at isolated places.
For Hyderabad and adjoining areas, the IMD has predicted a partly cloudy sky over the next 24 hours. “Fog or misty conditions are very likely to prevail during morning hours. Mist or hazy conditions are very likely to prevail during night hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 28 degrees Celsius and 13 degrees Celsius, respectively,” the bulletin said.
