Patna: As the campaign for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections draws to a close, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial candidate, Tejashwi Yadav, made a bold promise to women voters: a one-time annual financial aid of ₹30,000 under a proposed scheme called “Mai Bahin Maan Yojana.”
Speaking at a campaign rally in Patna on Monday, Tejashwi said, “After we form the government, on Makar Sankranti (January 14), we will deposit ₹30,000 into the bank accounts of women for an entire year under the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana.”
The RJD leader, seeking to position himself as the face of change in Bihar, added that people were “in the mood for change” after two decades of the current regime.
“This time, the people of Bihar will uproot the government that has been in power for the last 20 years,” he declared.
Promises of free electricity, MSP for farmers
Speaking to ANI, Yadav said farmers would receive an additional Rs 300 per quintal for paddy and Rs 400 per quintal for wheat over the existing Minimum Support Price (MSP). The scheme also includes free electricity for irrigation if the Mahagathbandhan comes to power.
“We will give Rs 300 for paddy and Rs 400 for wheat in addition to the MSP to farmers. We will provide free electricity to farmers for irrigation,” Yadav said.
Transfer policy for government employees
Yadav also addressed government employees, stating that transfers for police personnel, teachers, and healthcare workers would be restricted to a 70-kilometre radius from their home cadre, ensuring stability and convenience.
“Government employees, whether in police, health services, or education, will have transfer postings only within a 70 km radius of their home cadre,” he said.
