New Delhi: Political tensions within the Yadav family have once again surfaced ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, has unfollowed his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, on social media platform X.

This move follows his earlier decision to unfollow his elder sisters, Misa Yadav and Hema Yadav. Currently, Tej Pratap follows only five accounts, including three family members — his father Lalu Prasad Yadav, his mother Rabri Devi, and his sister Raj Lakshmi Yadav.

Tej Pratap, now the leader of the newly formed Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), has announced that his party will reveal its list of candidates for the upcoming Bihar elections on October 13. The announcement is expected to make a major impact on the state’s political scene.

He confirmed that he will contest from the Mahua Assembly constituency, the same seat he had won in 2015 as an RJD candidate.

“I will declare my candidates the day after tomorrow. Parso jordaar ailaan hoga (Day after tomorrow big announcements will be made)... I will contest from Mahua,” the JJD founder stated.

When asked whether he is in talks with other political parties, Tej Pratap replied, “Everyone is coming to meet me.”

Why was Tej Pratap expelled from RJD?

Tej Pratap Yadav was expelled from the RJD and distanced by his family after allegations of a serious breach of “moral and social values.” The controversy erupted following a Facebook post where he claimed to be in a long-term relationship with a woman.

The post led to widespread discussion online, with many recalling his past marital dispute. Tej Pratap, however, claimed that his account had been hacked.

He had married Aishwarya Rai, granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai, but their relationship soon turned turbulent. Aishwarya later accused her husband and in-laws of driving her out of their home. Their divorce case remains pending before the family court.

After his expulsion, Tej Pratap launched the JJD, positioning himself as a fresh face in Bihar’s crowded political field. The Mahua constituency, from where he plans to contest, is currently held by RJD leader Mukesh Kumar Raushan.

The Bihar Assembly elections will take place in two phases; November 6 and November 11, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 14.

The main contest will be between the NDA, led by the BJP and JD(U), and the INDIA bloc, headed by Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, which aims to unseat Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

However, JJD is not the only new entrant in the fray. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj has also announced its intention to contest all 243 seats in the state, setting the stage for a multi-cornered political battle in Bihar.
