From foggy mornings in Hyderabad to heavy rain lashing Chennai, South India braces for a sharp weather contrast as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensifies rain and wind along coastal regions.

South India is set to witness varied weather conditions on Saturday, January 10, ranging from fog and mist in the interiors to heavy rain and thunderstorms along coastal regions, according to the latest bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday evening.
In Hyderabad, residents can expect fog or mist during the early morning hours, followed by a partly cloudy sky later in the day. Temperatures are likely to hover between 13°C and 28°C, with humidity ranging from 34% to 64%. No weather warnings have been issued for the city.

Amaravati is forecast to experience a partly cloudy sky accompanied by haze. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 16°C, while the maximum may touch 30°C. The IMD has not issued any alerts for the region.
In Bengaluru, misty conditions are likely to persist, especially during the morning hours. The Silicon Valley of India will see temperatures ranging between 15°C and 26°C, with humidity levels fluctuating between 50% and 75%. No warnings are currently in place.
The situation turns more intense further south. Thiruvananthapuram is expected to witness a partly cloudy sky with moderate rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 33°C, while humidity is expected to remain around 60%. A thunderstorm warning has been issued for the region.
Meanwhile, Chennai is bracing for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning under the influence of a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal.
The IMD has placed Chennai under a yellow alert, while an orange alert has been issued for districts including Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Cuddalore, along with Puducherry and Karaikal.
According to the IMD, the deep depression—currently located southeast of Chennai—is expected to weaken gradually while moving northwestwards and may cross the north Sri Lanka coast between Trincomalee and Jaffna. The system is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu on January 10 and 11.
The weather agency has also warned of rough sea conditions, with strong surface winds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, along the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry coast.
A fishermen's warning has been issued for the Gulf of Mannar, adjoining Comorin area, and nearby coastal waters, advising against venturing into the sea until conditions improve.
