Mumbai: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has registered a case against a man who allegedly travelled in the ladies’ compartment of a Central Railway local train while dressed in a burqa, officials said on Saturday.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon on a fast local heading towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Women passengers became suspicious of a co-traveller and confronted the person, later realising he was a man. Some commuters recorded the exchange and said they would hand him over to police at Ghatkopar station.
Before the train could stop, the man reportedly jumped off the moving coach, crossed the tracks and boarded another train bound for Karjat. The women later alerted railway authorities at Ghatkopar.
RPF teams checked CCTV footage and searched the Karjat-bound train at Mulund station, but the suspect could not be traced.
A case has been filed under the Indian Railway Act for unauthorised travel in a ladies’ coach.
