Maharashtra: Mumbai local train commuters should prepare for service disruptions today as Central Railway carries out a scheduled Mega Block on the Main and Harbour lines, resulting in diversions, cancellations and special train services.

Commuters travelling on Mumbai's suburban railway network today (July 12) are likely to face delays and service changes as Central Railway undertakes a scheduled Mega Block for engineering and maintenance works. The block will affect both the Main and Harbour lines for several hours, with trains being diverted, cancelled and replaced by special services on select routes.

Main line services diverted

The Mega Block will be in effect on the UP and Down slow lines between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Vidhyavihar from 10:55 am to 3:55 pm.

During this period, Down slow trains departing CSMT between 10:48 am and 3:45 pm will run on the Down fast line between CSMT and Vidhyavihar before rejoining the slow corridor. These trains will halt at Byculla, Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Sion and Kurla.

Similarly, Up slow trains leaving Ghatkopar between 10:19 am and 3:52 pm will be diverted via the Up fast line, stopping at Kurla, Sion, Matunga, Dadar, Parel and Byculla before reaching CSMT.

Harbour line cancellations

The Harbour line will witness a longer disruption.

Down services between CSMT and Chunabhatti/Bandra will remain suspended from 11:40 am to 4:40 pm, while Up services towards CSMT will be suspended from 11:10 am to 4:10 pm.

As a result, several suburban trains operating between CSMT, Vashi, Belapur, Panvel, Bandra and Goregaon during these hours will remain cancelled.

Special train services

To reduce inconvenience, Central Railway will operate special suburban trains between Panvel and Kurla (Platform 8) every 20 minutes throughout the Mega Block.

Passengers travelling on the Harbour line will also be permitted to use Central Railway's Main line and Western Railway services between 10 am and 6 pm.

According to Central Railway, the temporary shutdown is necessary to carry out infrastructure upgrades and essential engineering work that cannot be performed during normal train operations. Officials said these periodic Mega Blocks are crucial for maintaining the safety, reliability and long-term efficiency of Mumbai's suburban railway network.

Commuters are advised to check the latest train schedules before travelling and allow extra time for their journey.
