New Delhi: Panic gripped the Mahipalpur area in southwest Delhi on Thursday morning after a loud sound, initially suspected to be a blast, was later traced to a bus tyre burst, officials said.

The Delhi Fire Services said a call was received at 9.19 am reporting a blast-like sound near a hotel in Mahipalpur, after which three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However, an extensive check revealed nothing unusual, officials added.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said the caller, when contacted, informed that he was on his way to Gurugram when he heard the loud noise. “We checked everything, but nothing was found,” the DCP said.

During local inquiries, a security guard stated that the rear tyre of a DTC bus travelling towards Dhaula Kuan had burst, causing the loud sound.

“The situation is normal and there is nothing to worry,” Goel added.
