Mumbai: Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma on Wednesday said that a series of firing incidents at his café in Surrey, Canada, has pushed authorities to take stronger action against such attacks in the region.

Sharma’s Kap’s Café, which opened in Surrey, British Columbia, in July, was targeted three times, first on July 10, then again on August 7, and finally on October 16. Unknown assailants fired at the café on all three occasions, though no injuries were reported.

Speaking at the trailer launch of his upcoming film “Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2,” Sharma addressed questions about the incidents. He suggested that the repeated attacks highlighted limitations in local law enforcement powers.

“What I feel is that the rules there and the police perhaps don’t have the power to control such incidents. But when our case happened, it went to the federal government and there was a discussion in the Canadian Parliament,” Sharma said.

Despite the security concerns, Sharma said the café continued to attract more customers after each incident.

“In fact, after every firing incident, we got a bigger opening at the café. So it is all okay if God is with me,” he added.

The comedian shared that several people reached out to him after the attacks, saying the incidents helped draw attention to ongoing safety issues in the area.

“I believe whatever God does, we don’t get to know the story behind it… Many people called me and told me that a lot had been happening there, but after the firing at my café, it became news and now steps are being taken to improve the law-and-order situation,” Sharma said.

The 43-year-old also emphasised that he has never felt threatened in India.

“I never felt unsafe in Mumbai or in our country. There is no other department like the Mumbai police,” he said.

The police investigation into the Surrey shootings is ongoing.
