New Delhi: Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after his recent deportation from the United States. Authorities view his arrest as a major victory, as he is believed to be the central operational link between the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate’s jailed leadership and its ground-level operatives across India and abroad.

Anmol, who faces an estimated 31 criminal cases across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi, is wanted in connection with some of the country’s most high-profile crimes.

What is his role in the 'Bishnoi gang'

Despite his elder brother, Lawrence Bishnoi, being lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail, Anmol allegedly functioned as the global criminal syndicate's "remote commander" and principal overseas handler while based in the US.

According to the NIA, Anmol’s primary role was to maintain the syndicate's operational flow from 2020–2023. As per reports, his responsibilities included: Logistical support, providing shelter, funds, and support to the gang’s shooters and ground operatives. Managing and directing the gang’s extensive extortion network in India from foreign soil and coordinating operations with designated terrorist Goldy Brar and his brother, even while absconding.

What are the major cases linked to Anmol Bishnoi?

Anmol Bishnoi’s name is central to the conspiracy and planning of several audacious and sensational criminal acts:

Sidhu Moosewala's murder (May 2022): He is accused of being involved in the planning and facilitating logistical support, including arms, for the shooters.

Baba Siddique's murder (October 2024): He has been named by Mumbai Police as the "main plotter" of the assassination of the former NCP minister.

Salman Khan residence firing (April 2024): As per reports, he allegedly coordinated the attack from overseas and claimed responsibility on social media, calling it a "warning." He has been named in the charge sheet.

He faces 31 criminal cases across multiple states.

Anmol Bishnoi fled India in April 2022, just a month before the Sidhu Moosewala murder, using a forged passport in the name of Bhanu Pratap. His escape route reportedly included countries like Nepal, Dubai, and Kenya before he reached the US. Investigators believe this early departure was calculated to mislead law enforcement agencies.

With Anmol now in custody, Indian agencies anticipate gaining crucial access to information on the gang’s funding channels, recruitment patterns, and intricate international network, disrupting the Bishnoi syndicate's command structure.
