The facility, spanning 31 acres, represents an investment of over INR 1,100 crore and is poised to enhance IndiGo's maintenance capabilities, supporting its expanding fleet that includes A320/A321XLR and upcoming A350 widebody aircraft.

In a significant move to bolster India's aviation infrastructure, IndiGo has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) to develop a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru. The facility, spanning 31 acres, represents an investment of over INR 1,100 crore and is poised to enhance IndiGo's maintenance capabilities, supporting its expanding fleet that includes A320/A321XLR and upcoming A350 widebody aircraft.
The MRO hub will feature four hangars capable of servicing four wide-body or eight narrow-body aircraft simultaneously, a dedicated paint hangar, and advanced support infrastructure. This development is expected to create over 750 direct jobs and significantly increase Bengaluru Airport’s aircraft handling capacity to about 1,300 by FY2031 and 2,100 by FY2037- 38.
Peter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, said: “Partnering with BIAL underscores a shared commitment to driving long-term growth of the aviation ecosystem in Bengaluru and cementing its status as a world-class international hub.
Hari Marar, MD & CEO of BIAL, highlighted the deepening partnership with IndiGo. He said, “This collaboration further strengthens their association and validates the growth potential of Bengaluru Airport and the city as a premier aviation hub.”
Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating that Bengaluru is now positioned to emerge as Asia's primary MRO centre. "The government of Karnataka is deeply committed to advancing aerospace and aviation manufacturing in the state," he added.
This development aligns with Bengaluru's emergence as India's third major aviation and aerospace hub, following Mumbai and Delhi. The city boasts a robust aerospace ecosystem, hosting major players like Boeing, Airbus, and Lockheed Martin, and is home to various defense research and development institutions.
