A dangerous heatwave continues to sweep across several parts of North, Central and Eastern India, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing severe heatwave alerts for multiple states. Temperatures are hovering between 44°C and 46°C in several regions, while authorities remain on high alert over rising heatstroke cases, power demand and public health risks.
Punjab remains under severe heatwave conditions, with dry weather and intense daytime heat pushing temperatures well above normal levels. Hospitals have activated heatstroke management facilities as dehydration and exhaustion cases rise.
Haryana is witnessing scorching temperatures alongside hot summer winds. The IMD has included the state in its red alert zone, warning residents to avoid outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours.
Delhi and surrounding NCR regions are facing extreme heat conditions with temperatures nearing 45°C. Power demand has surged sharply due to nonstop air-conditioner use, while hospitals are reporting a spike in heat-related illnesses.
Chandigarh is also under severe heatwave warning, with officials advising residents to remain indoors during the hottest part of the day and stay hydrated.
West Rajasthan is expected to experience some of the harshest heatwave conditions in the country. The IMD has warned of a peak temperature surge in severe pockets across the state over the next few days.
Large parts of Madhya Pradesh are under severe heatwave alert as temperatures continue to remain dangerously high. Authorities are monitoring public health conditions closely amid prolonged exposure risks.
The Vidarbha region in Maharashtra is witnessing intense summer heat, with the IMD forecasting continued severe heatwave conditions through the week.
Uttar Pradesh is facing both severe daytime heat and “Warm Night” conditions, where nighttime temperatures remain unusually high. Officials have warned that lack of nighttime cooling can significantly increase heat stress and health risks.
Jharkhand is expected to remain under heatwave conditions as dry weather patterns continue across eastern India. Authorities are advising precautionary measures for vulnerable groups.
Parts of Chhattisgarh are also likely to experience severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures expected to rise further over the next 48 hours.
While Telangana is not under the core severe heatwave red zone, the IMD has warned of “Warm Night” conditions in several areas, increasing discomfort and reducing overnight relief from the heat.
Though not among the primary red alert states, Bihar has already begun precautionary measures including revised school timings, ORS distribution and public drinking water arrangements to deal with rising temperatures.
Public health officials have urged children, senior citizens, pregnant women and outdoor workers to avoid direct sunlight between 11 AM and 4 PM. Citizens have also been advised to drink sufficient water, wear light clothing and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours.
The IMD is expected to continue monitoring the situation closely as severe heatwave conditions persist across large parts of the country.
