New Delhi: Weather conditions caused by deep circulation in the Gulf of Mannar may lead to heavy rainfall in Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu, according to IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy on Friday.
"Yesterday, 11cm rainfall was recorded in Tamil Nadu, 6-7 cm in Kerala and 9 cm in coastal Karnataka. Heavy to heavy rainfall (12-20 cm) is expected in interior Kerala and south interior Tamil Nadu due to a deep circulation in the area of the Gulf of Mannar..." she said. She further added "In the rest of the country, the weather will remain clear. Strong winds will continue in north India for the next 2-3 days. There is no change in temperature expected in north india till Nov 3. After Nov 3, temperatures are likely to fall by overall 2-3 degrees Celcius due to north-westerly winds..."

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted very heavy rainfall for Kerala and Mahe, as well as for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Friday. The IMD has issued an advisory urging people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. It’s important to keep children and pets inside and to remove any loose items or debris that could pose a risk during the storm.
If you must go outside, the IMD advises staying away from metal structures and objects that conduct electricity, as well as avoiding utility lines, including phone and power lines, metal fences, and trees. People are also cautioned to keep away from electrical conductors, windows, and doors, and to refrain from using corded phones and other electrical equipment that could attract lightning.
The IMD has issued weather warnings for the next seven days, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, especially on November 1, with a slight decrease expected thereafter. Additionally, temperatures in northern and eastern India are projected to gradually drop by 2-3 degrees from November 3 to 7.
