Widespread high temperatures and warm nights
Many districts are currently reporting temperatures in the range of 40–42°C. While these levels are close to normal for late April, the presence of heatwave conditions along with warm nights has increased discomfort and heat stress across several regions. The weather has remained largely dry during this period.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast a further increase of 1–2°C in maximum temperatures over the next few days. Heatwave conditions are expected to persist at isolated places, particularly in western and north-eastern parts of Rajasthan. In north-western regions, temperatures may reach 44–45°C during this period.
Dust storms and thunderstorms expected
A weak western disturbance is likely to influence weather conditions in the coming days. The Met department has predicted dust storms accompanied by thunder at isolated places in the border areas of western Rajasthan on April 25, and across western and northern parts between April 26 and 28.
The department has also indicated the possibility of light rain or drizzle at a few places during this period. While this may provide brief localised relief, it is not expected to significantly reduce the overall intensity of the heatwave.
