New Delhi: The Central intelligence agencies and multiple state police forces are facing renewed pressure following a reported split between jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his long-time associate Goldy Brar. According to a detailed report by The Indian Express, the two have severed ties and formed separate criminal syndicates.

Officials quoted in the report said that Bishnoi, currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail, has aligned with Canada-based Noni Rana, while Brar is said to be working closely with Azerbaijan-based gangster Rohit Godara.

As per report, the rift began when Bishnoi became upset over Brar and Godara’s lack of support for his brother, Anmol, who was arrested by US immigration authorities in November 2024 for allegedly travelling with fake documents. Anmol, named in the killings of singer Sidhu Moosewala and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, was later released with an ankle tracker.

Sources claim that Brar and Godara failed to help Anmol secure a bail bond, which infuriated Bishnoi.

NIA discusses gang feud with state police

The development was recently reviewed in a meeting between the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and senior police officers from Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi, The Indian Express reported. Investigators said Noni Rana — also known as Surya Pratap — is collecting extortion money from the US on behalf of Bishnoi, using VPNs to hide his actual location.

Rana is the younger brother of Haryana-based gangster Kala Rana (Virender Pratap), who has been on the radar of Indian security forces for years.

Brar publicly distances from Bishnoi

Officials noted a visible shift in communication tactics. In a recent social media post, Brar and Godara claimed responsibility for the killing of Harjit Singh, a businessman in Mississauga, Canada. Notably, they did not name Bishnoi — a departure from earlier statements where Bishnoi was regularly mentioned as a co-conspirator.

The Indian Express report also highlighted Bishnoi’s past involvement in high-profile threats against actor Salman Khan, including a recent shooting outside the actor’s Mumbai residence.

Canadian authorities had  alleged “agents” of the Indian government were working with the Bishnoi gang to promote terror on Canadian soil — a claim strongly denied by India. Brar (Satwinderjit Singh), believed to be the mastermind behind Moosewala’s killing, was declared a designated terrorist by the Union government under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in 2024.

Old criminal network shows signs of collapse

During their early criminal careers, Bishnoi, Brar, Kala Rana, and others operated together. Over time, Bishnoi expanded the group by forming pacts with gangsters across India, including Dhananjay Singh from Uttar Pradesh, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria from Punjab, Kala Jatheri from Haryana, and several others from Delhi and Rajasthan.

However, sources told The Indian Express that disputes over money and influence led to the group’s gradual breakdown. Bhagwanpuria, who supplied weapons, reportedly demanded higher payments. Kala Jatheri exited the group after learning that Brar and Godara were making extortion calls in Haryana — an area he considered his base.
